It is estimated that about 30% of global water consumption is due to wastage or leaks. Usually, large wastes are noticed when getting the water bill when it is already way too late.
This is why Cadis develops Water Monitoring and Management Systems* (WMMS) that map your water consumption (monitoring), prevent waste and prevent damage to your building (management). In most buildings, a single AquaVision module is sufficient, but AquaVision systems are modular and can therefore also be deployed as a network of intelligent devices on larger projects.
In the latest BREEAM guidelines for new construction, a WMMS is a requirement to achieve credit WAT02, which is an essential credit to achieve a score of Good over higher. The system also detects leaks on the main water line, thus also earning you WAT03.

What types of leaks are detected?
We call something a water leak if it results in water waste or water damage. Our AquaVision detects both types.
Some typical situations that are common and can be detected:
- A dripping faucet loses 10,000 gallons a year
- The toilet that keeps flushing leaks 7,200 gallons a day
- A backwash filter of a pump that is stuck is leaking 2,000 liters per hour or 48,000 liters per day!
- Sprinkler tanks refill periodically when a certain amount of water is lost
- A pipe burst loses thousands of gallons per hour and this water damages the entire building!
Large leaks can be detected within minutes, small leaks within hours.
A WMMS consists of:
- Water meters
- Motorized shut-off valves
- Intelligent system that controls the whole
With submetering , you find out not only that there is a problem, but also where the problem is.
The fire line that refills the sprinkler tank has a high risk of leaks and is therefore essential to meter. However, it should never be shut off with a valve so that it is always available at the time of fire.
