Introduction
The Paleiskwartier in ‘s Hertogenbosch is a modern living and working area with 900 units, where heat and cold are supplied via a heat network managed by Duurzaam Opgewekt. For automatic reading of heat and cold meters, Duurzaam Opgewekt engaged Cadis to make the billing of heating and cooling costs accurate and efficient.
Problem definition
Duurzaam Opgewekt needed a solution for the automatic recording of meter readings in 900 units spread over 20 buildings. Until then, this was done manually. In addition to the energy meters, hot water meters in one-third of the units had to be replaced for automatic reading. This required contact with all residents and accurate recording of old meter readings to avoid settlement errors.
Our solution
Cadis chose LoRaWan technology, which can transmit small data packets from sensors up to 10 km. Engelmann heat and cold meters with built-in LoRaWan connectivity were installed. The data is collected via a central gateway and transmitted to a web application, where Duurzaam Opgewekt can consult the current meter readings.
